Security operatives have reportedly arrested two suspected members of the Vikings confraternity in Calabar, Cross River State, amid rising tensions between the Vikings and KK confraternities.
One of those arrested was identified as Ita, reportedly a former number two member, known as the “Ark Man,” at the Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH). The arrest reportedly took place in an area referred to by Vikings members as Normandy Platoon.
The development is linked to an ongoing clash between the Vikings and KK groups following a cross-carpeting dispute involving students of CRUTECH, Calabar. Naija Confra first reported the development on September 8.
Vikings, KK Clash Over Cross-Carpeting Dispute
Tensions between the two groups have reportedly escalated following allegations surrounding the movement of students from one group to another, an issue commonly referred to as “cross-carpeting.”
KK members reportedly alleged that the movement was carried out forcefully, a claim that has contributed to the recent confrontation between the groups.
There are also unconfirmed reports that one person attacked during the violence may have died. The claim could not be independently verified at the time of publication.
CRUTECH Management Warns Against Cult Violence
The management of the university has issued a warning concerning the situation and urged students to avoid cult-related violence, intimidation and other forms of misconduct.
The warning comes as final-year students prepare for their final examinations.
According to the school’s directive, students found involved in cult-related activities, violence, intimidation or other serious misconduct could face severe disciplinary measures, including rustication from the institution.
Elders Reportedly Move to Prevent Further Violence
Amid the growing tension, older members associated with both Vikings and KK are reportedly making efforts to calm the situation.
Sources say some senior members are concerned about the possibility of the conflict escalating, particularly because many of them are now peaceful businessmen, professionals and politicians.
Vikings elders reportedly held a meeting and warned members against provoking or starting another round of violence. According to reports, anyone found pushing for war could be arrested and potentially remain in custody until after December.

Cult-related violence remains a serious security concern in Cross River State, particularly in Calabar.
