The Delta State Police Command has arrested 16 suspects and recovered firearms, a stolen Toyota Camry and quantities of suspected illicit drugs in separate operations across the state.
The command said the operations also disrupted a suspected cult gathering, foiled an alleged extortion attempt at a construction site and led to the arrest of persons suspected to be involved in drug-related activities.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said eight suspected cultists were arrested during a raid on a suspected criminal meeting at Pleasure Bush Bar in Aragba-Orogun.
According to the police, the operation was carried out on September 7, 2026, following credible intelligence about the gathering. Officers reportedly stormed the location and arrested the eight suspects.
A search of one of the suspects’ residences subsequently led to the recovery of a pump-action gun, one live cartridge and five mobile phones. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Asaba for further investigation.
The command said other operations carried out at different locations across Delta State resulted in the arrest of additional suspects and the recovery of a stolen Toyota Camry and suspected illicit drugs.
Police also said its operatives successfully disrupted an alleged extortion attempt at a construction site, while suspects linked to suspected drug activities were taken into custody.
The command said investigations into the various cases are ongoing, with efforts underway to identify other persons allegedly connected to the offences.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel Etaifo Erale, has continued to direct officers and tactical teams in the command to intensify intelligence-led operations against cultism, kidnapping, armed robbery and other criminal activities across the state.
The police urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing and detecting crime.
