A minor fire incident was reported at the Idu Train Station in Abuja on Wednesday evening after an electrical fault affected part of the station, the Nigerian Railway Corporation has said.
The incident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. in the station’s low-voltage electrical room, where some electrical equipment and cables were affected.
According to the Nigerian Railway Corporation, the fire was quickly detected and contained by maintenance personnel before it could spread to other parts of the station.
The NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Thursday.
He said a preliminary assessment of the incident showed that some electrical supply cables connected to the station’s control panels were damaged.
The corporation described the incident as minor and said the affected area was promptly secured following the fire.
The NRC did not indicate that passengers or railway workers were injured in the incident.
Further assessment is expected to determine the full extent of the damage and the steps required to restore any affected electrical systems.
The Idu Train Station is an important part of Abuja’s rail transportation network, serving passengers travelling on the Abuja-Kaduna railway corridor.
The corporation’s response to the incident is expected to ensure that the affected electrical systems are properly inspected and repaired to maintain safe railway operations.
