The Kano State Police Command has commended residents of Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area for their peaceful conduct and cooperation with security agencies during Saturday’s by-election into the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency of the Kano State House of Assembly.
The commendation was given by the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, while monitoring the election across various polling units in the local government area.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Saturday.
Bakori praised voters and other stakeholders for maintaining peace and complying with security guidelines throughout the electoral process.
The by-election, held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, was conducted amid a strong security presence across polling units, with election officials arriving early and voting proceeding without major incidents in areas monitored by news correspondents.
The police had earlier restricted movement within Dawakin Kudu from midnight to 5 p.m. on election day as part of measures to ensure a peaceful and credible exercise. Only people on essential duties, including INEC officials, accredited observers, medical personnel, firefighters and journalists, were exempted from the restriction.
Ahead of the election, the police and other security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security had deployed personnel, intelligence assets and operational resources to polling units, collation centres and other strategic locations within the constituency.
Reports from polling units monitored during the exercise indicated that voters largely conducted themselves peacefully, although turnout was described as low. Six political parties — ADP, APP, APC, LP, PDP and PRP — fielded candidates for the election.
The police command thanked residents for their cooperation and urged them to continue supporting security agencies in maintaining peace and protecting the electoral process.
