The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced October 9, 2026, as the date for the commencement of the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) by eligible voters.
The announcement was made by the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, on Monday in Kaduna during the commission’s North-West Zonal Interactive Meeting with staff and its readiness assessment for the 2027 general elections.
The commission is intensifying preparations for the 2027 general elections, with voter education, logistics and other electoral preparations already underway. INEC had earlier said the Continuous Voter Registration exercise and display of the preliminary register had been concluded, while preparations for PVC collection were ongoing.
Registered voters who participated in the recent registration exercise are therefore expected to take note of the October 9 commencement date and follow INEC’s official guidance on where and how to collect their cards.
INEC’s voter portal also allows registered voters to check their PVC status and identify their collection centre.
The development is part of the electoral commission’s broader preparations ahead of the 2027 elections, with the presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for January 16, 2027, while governorship and State House of Assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027.
