Nigerian singer Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, popularly known as Mayorkun, has opened up about his time with Davido and the support he received from the Afrobeats superstar.
Mayorkun described himself as fortunate to have been associated with Davido, saying the singer played a major role in supporting the lifestyle and careers of those around him.
“I’m lucky to be on Davido’s side. I’ve even been getting black tax from him. For almost four years, he sponsored our lifestyles,” Mayorkun said.
Mayorkun was one of the prominent artistes associated with Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), alongside acts including Peruzzi and Dremo. His time with the label helped establish him as one of Nigeria’s leading Afrobeats singers.
Davido had previously spoken about his approach to running DMW, saying he spent money on music videos, accommodation and the welfare of his artistes without taking a share of their earnings.
Although Mayorkun’s recording contract with DMW has since ended, he has continued to maintain a relationship with Davido. In a 2025 interview, the singer said his DMW contract had ended several years earlier while noting that he remained connected to the label and its founder.
Mayorkun’s latest comments have once again highlighted the close relationship between the singer and Davido, as well as the support the DMW founder provided to artistes who came under his platform.
