A lawyer representing the claimants in a $2.1 million land dispute involving Jordan Wike, son of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has asked for the case to be transferred to another judge over concerns about the appearance of possible bias.
The lawyer, Ibrahim G. Waru, who represents Safwan Garba GY and GY Global Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited, made the request in a letter to the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court, Justice Husseini Baba-Yusuf.
The letter, dated October 7, 2026, and received by the Chief Judge’s chambers on October 8, sought the reassignment of the suit, marked CV/008/26, from Court 2, presided over by Justice Sylvanus Chinedu Oriji.
According to the lawyer, the request followed public discussions and social media publications raising questions about alleged family and community ties between the presiding judge and Jordan Wike.
Waru, however, clarified that the application was not an accusation of actual bias or misconduct against Justice Oriji. He said the objective was to prevent circumstances that could create doubts about the impartiality of the proceedings and preserve public confidence in the judicial process.
The lawyer argued that transferring the case to another court would help ensure that the proceedings were seen to be fair to all parties.
Details of the $2.1m Dispute
The suit arose from an alleged real estate transaction in Abuja. The claimants alleged that Jordan agreed to facilitate the acquisition of land in the Katampe and Guzape areas for a proposed property development project.
They claimed to have paid him $2.1 million in cash on September 26, 2025, but alleged that the agreed transaction was not completed and the money was not refunded.
Jordan has denied the allegations, maintaining that he did not receive the money or enter into the alleged transaction with the claimants. He also disputed the authenticity of his signature on a document presented in connection with the deal.
The case has continued at the FCT High Court, where Jordan was previously ordered to produce his American passport during proceedings concerning his whereabouts on the date of the alleged payment.
The request to transfer the case is now before the Chief Judge, although no decision on the application was contained in the reports available as of October 12, 2026.
The allegations remain contested and have yet to be finally determined by the court.
