The Defence Headquarters has reported a 73.3 per cent reduction in attacks across Nigeria’s military operational theatres in October 2026.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, disclosed this on Friday in Abuja while briefing journalists on the military’s activities across the country.

According to him, troops recorded 98 attacks in October, compared with 367 incidents recorded in September, representing 269 fewer attacks within one month.

A breakdown showed that Operation Enduring Peace recorded 29 attacks, followed by Operation Hadin Kai with 27 and Operation Fansan Yamma with 24. Operation Whirl Stroke recorded 12, while Operation Udo Ka recorded four. Operations Delta Safe and Savannah Shield recorded one each.

Beyond the reduction in attacks, the military disclosed that troops neutralised more than 217 terrorists and criminals, arrested 333 suspects and rescued 349 kidnapped victims during the month.

The military also recovered 105 firearms and 3,174 rounds of ammunition, while 70 insurgents reportedly surrendered to troops.

Despite the reported improvement, the military acknowledged deadly attacks in parts of the country, including the October 23 attack in Binari community, Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State, which claimed civilian lives.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, assured Nigerians that efforts would be intensified to tackle insecurity and bring those responsible for attacks to justice.
