500 Cross River Market Women Benefit From Oluremi Tinubu’s Latest Empowerment Programme

Written by Mary Bassey

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has extended financial support and gift items to 500 market women in Cross River State in a move aimed at supporting small businesses and improving the livelihoods of women traders.

The empowerment programme was held on Saturday at Watt Market in Calabar and organised through the Women Mobilisation Directorate of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.

During the exercise, 500 women traders benefited from cash assistance and various gift items to support their businesses and ease some of the challenges associated with daily trading.

The initiative is also part of efforts to strengthen grassroots engagement and mobilise women ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The programme highlights the importance of women in local economic activities, particularly in the informal business sector, where many traders depend on small-scale businesses to support their families.

The intervention is expected to provide some relief to the beneficiaries while encouraging greater participation of women in economic and community development activities.
