Dino Melaye Throws Quran Challenge at Tinubu After Saudi Arabia Trip

Written by Mary Bassey

Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has challenged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to a Quranic citation competition following the President’s recent pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.

Melaye reportedly issued the challenge in a reaction to Tinubu’s recent Umrah pilgrimage to Makkah, where the President was reported to have performed the lesser Hajj and visited Islam’s holy sites.

The former lawmaker’s remarks have attracted attention, turning the President’s religious trip into a subject of political discussion.

Melaye made the challenge in a post on his official X account on Monday, November 2, 2026, stating that he was prepared to compete with the President in citing passages from the Holy Quran immediately after his return.

He wrote: “Now that Alhaji Bola Tinubu is in Umrah. Immediately he comes back, I challenge him to a Quranic citation competition with me. No one can mock God.”

The challenge followed Tinubu’s recent religious visit to Saudi Arabia, during which he performed Umrah and was granted the rare privilege of entering the Holy Kaaba in Makkah to offer prayers.

During the visit, Tinubu said he prayed for wisdom and resilience to continue serving Nigerians. He also referenced Surah Aal-Imran, Verse 26, while speaking about God’s ultimate authority over power and leadership.

Melaye’s challenge has since drawn public attention, particularly because of its timing amid discussions surrounding the President’s religious activities in Saudi Arabia.
