Tinubu Gets Rare Access to Islam’s Holiest Site After Visiting Makkah

Written by Mary Bassey

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has received a rare religious honour after gaining access to the interior of the Holy Kaaba in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, following his visit to the Grand Mosque.

The Nigerian leader was also reported to have kissed the Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad), one of the most sacred objects in Islam, during the visit.

The Holy Kaaba, located at the centre of Masjid al-Haram in Makkah, is the most sacred site in Islam and the direction Muslims face during their daily prayers.

Access to the interior of the Kaaba is highly restricted and is generally reserved for selected dignitaries and special occasions, making the experience a significant moment for those granted entry.

Tinubu’s visit has attracted attention, particularly among Muslims, given the spiritual importance of the Kaaba and the Black Stone.

The development has also generated interest because entering the sacred structure is an uncommon privilege, even for prominent international visitors.
