The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, reportedly ordered the refund of billions of naira donated to a church project after the money was traced to proceeds of financial crime.
The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, disclosed this while addressing RCCG pastors and workers on Saturday, November 7, 2026.
According to Olukoyede, a church member had donated billions of naira towards an RCCG project, but investigations later revealed that the funds were linked to financial crimes.
He explained that after the church leadership was informed about the source of the money, Pastor Adeboye immediately directed that the funds be returned within 24 hours.
The EFCC chairman commended the cleric for his swift response, describing the action as an example of financial integrity and accountability.
Olukoyede, who is also an ordained pastor, was invited by Adeboye to speak to church workers about financial propriety, transparency and the importance of maintaining proper financial records.
During his address, the EFCC boss warned religious leaders against accepting suspicious donations without first verifying the sources of the donors’ wealth.
He also expressed concern over cases of financial misconduct involving religious leaders and warned that the commission would not spare anyone found involved in financial crimes, regardless of their religious position.
Responding, Pastor Adeboye reportedly assured the EFCC chairman that the RCCG would not protect anyone found guilty of financial wrongdoing.
He also urged pastors across the church to maintain transparent financial records and ensure that their activities remain free from corruption.
Olukoyede did not disclose the identity of the donor, the exact amount refunded or the particular project involved.
