The University of Calabar chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has confirmed that not more than 10 of her members have died within the period of their ongoing industrial action.
The Chairman of ASUU University of Calabar chapter, Dr. John Edor who confirmed this said that contrary to what is being peddled on social media, about 10 of her members have lost their lives between February and September, 2022 while they\’ve been on strike.
Dr Edor said, \”It is not correct that 21 members of our Union in the University of Calabar have lost their lives as a result of the ongoing national industrial action.
\”Despite wholesome neglect and intimidation by the Federal Government, we will not give up on our demands, but we\’ve not lost members up to the numbers as speculated and circulated in the media space.
\”I can confirm that we have lost about 10 of our members, but not all are Professors. They are Profs Gabriel U. Ntamu, Judith Otu, Udosen, Kate Agbor, Obia and other academia\’s.
\”Even as the government have refused to listen to our plights and provide conducive avenue devoid of all impediments, we will continue to cope with all losses we have had regardless. We are aware of the hunger, intimidation or court order. We are not given up on this fight, we will take it to a logical conclusion where necessary things government ought to do are done\”. He added.
