In a bid to support the government of cross river state in cushioning the scourging effect of the cholera outbreak, they have in collaboration with the state ministry of health and the state primary health care development agency, carried out an intense cholera epidemic training in Abi and Obubra LGA.

The organization that is also known as Doctors without Borders stated that the essence of the training is to equip the health workers with the prerequisite knowledge on how to manage the cholera outbreak through sensitization exercises, awareness creation and provision of medical commodities.

Declaring the training open, the director general of the CRSPHCDA Deaconess Mrs Abasioffiong Offiong thanked the government of Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade for the outstanding/sterling support all through this period of the cholera outbreak, she applauded the efforts of the state ministry of health under the leadership of Dr. Janet Ekpenyong and appreciated Doctors without Borders for their tremendous support.

\”To my health workers, especially my PHC Directors across the 18LGAs I say thank you for working round the clock. This training is important and timely knowing the challenges we\’re facing as a state. I charge us all to take it seriously and rededicate ourselves as knowledge is power. With the knowledge we\’ll acquire from this training, we should be able to put it to work to help fight this outbreak. I wish us all the very best of the training.\”

Speaking also during the training, the team lead of Doctors without Borders Mr Hussein Ismail reiterated the organization\’s strong desire to continue to partner with the state and render every necessary services they can to help boast the health sector of the state

\”Our organization saw the need to collaborate with the state government to see how we can train health workers on the right ways/techniques in managing this cholera epidemic. As an organization, we\’ve recruited two medical doctors, four nurses, one data clerk, three security guards, four crowd controllers and four cleaners for Eja Memorial Hospital and same number for the general hospital in Obubra.

We\’ve also established cholera treatment centres in Eja Memorial Hospital and general hospital Obubra for a proper management of cholera patients. We\’ve supplied cholera management commodities to both LGAs. Added the team lead Mr Hussein Ismail.\”

The state epidemiologist Pastor Inyang Ekpenyong who has been working round the clock to cushion the effect of the cholera epidemic alongside the director of community/family health services Mrs Sally Enyin were amongst the facilitators of the training.
