Atiku’s Camp Sends Tinubu a Strong Message Over Ebola

Written by Mary Bassey

The camp of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has challenged President Bola Tinubu to face Nigerians at the ballot box, accusing his administration of allegedly relying on excuses instead of allowing voters to decide its popularity.

Atiku’s senior media aide, Phrank Shaibu, made the remarks in a statement issued on Wednesday while commenting on the country’s political situation.

The statement urged Tinubu to allow Nigerians to express their views on his administration through the electoral process, arguing that elections remain the democratic means of determining public support for a government.

The camp also pointed to the economic difficulties many Nigerians are facing, insisting that citizens should have the opportunity to pass their verdict on the administration through their votes.

“Tinubu must face Nigerians at the ballot box, not hide behind Ebola,” the statement said.

Shaibu’s comments further argued that neither the Ebola issue nor any other justification should prevent Nigerians from expressing their opinions about the government’s performance.

The statement maintained that democratic leadership requires elected officials to submit themselves to the people’s judgment through elections.

However, the claims about the President allegedly using Ebola as an excuse were Atiku’s camp’s position and were not independently established in the information provided.

The remarks add to the political exchanges surrounding Tinubu’s administration and the debate over public accountability, economic hardship and the role of elections in determining the country’s leadership.
