Barr. Victor Egba Resigns from Partisan Politics, Says system prioritises sycophancy over substance

Written by calabarGist

After careful thought and deep reflection, I have decided to formally withdraw from active participation in partisan politics. This decision is one of conscience and conviction, taken after years of engagement driven by a genuine desire to see politics become a vehicle for service, not self-interest.

When I first joined partisan politics, it was out of a belief that through honest participation, we could reform the system from within that politics could once again be about principles, people, and progress. Sadly, that belief has been tested by reality. The structure of our partisan politics has become one that stifles sincerity, discourages independent thought, and rewards sycophancy over substance.

Loyalty to individuals and factions now too often outweighs loyalty to truth and to the greater good. The atmosphere does not encourage innovation or integrity; rather, it promotes conformity and expediency. Even among the youth those who should represent a new moral direction there appears an eagerness to replicate, rather than reform, the very habits that have weakened our system.

In such an environment, it has become increasingly difficult to contribute meaningfully or to serve effectively in accordance with my values. The culture neither appreciates merit nor encourages honest service. There is little motivation to continue in a system that fails to reward dedication and discourages principle.

Therefore, I have chosen to step away from partisan politics  not in anger, but in good conscience. I do so with peace of mind and with gratitude for the experiences that have shaped me. I accept the leadership of my guiding light and will henceforth channel my energies into service beyond the narrow confines of party structures.

Partisan politics may no longer be my platform, but public service remains my purpose. I will continue to engage and contribute toward the growth and progress of our society now from a place of independence, clarity, and renewed conviction.

Victor Egba Esq.
