Natural Disaster: Dr. Betta Edu Partners CRSMOH & CRSPHCDA, Visits Ebom Community, Sympathises with Flood Victims.

The APC National Women Leader, Dr Betta Edu in partnership with the Cross River State Ministry of Health and the Cross River State Primary HealthCare Development Agency yesterday cast their presence in Ebom community to sympathize with the community and the flood victims.

During the visit, Dr. Edu epressed shock over the recent flood disaster that ravaged the Ebom Community in Abi LGA of Cross River State, resulting to loss of properties, destruction of farm lands worth millions of naira and rendering many people homeless.

Speaking during a tour to the affected community, Dr Edu who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Cross River State Ministry of Health, Obol Dr. Iwara Iwara said, I received an SOS call from one of your son\’s who happen to be my Personal Aide and also Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Health Peter Enyievi, followed by several unpleasant pictures he sent to me on the current situation in Ebom community. My sincere sympathy goes to the entire Ebom community, especially the flood victims in this disastrous times. This flood may have wash away your properties and farm lands, but can certainly not wash away the hope, aspirations and confidence in your hearts. And advise those living close and around riverine areas to always excercise caution by possibly relocating temporary until after the rainy season. She further added, take these items I have brought here today in good faith, I am certain these can serve as relief materials to cushion the effect of what this flood had caused you all. We have visited your community, we have seen the extent of damage for ourselves, we will try to escalate what we have seen to the appropriate authorities, on our own part, we will do more to empower affected farmers in time to come, so that they can recuperate their loses. My heart is with the entire Ebom community and I pray Almighty God to guide, protect and strengthen you all.

More so, representative of Dr. Janet Ekpenyong, the Director General of the CRSPHCDA Mr. Paul Egbung said the people of Ebom are unique set of people and as such the need for the urgent visit. He promised on behalf of his principal, a well-organized healthcare outreach to address some health challenges faced by the people.

Also speaking during the visit, the SSA to the Governor on Public Health, Peter Enyievi thank Dr. Betta Edu for her constant support and prompt response to the plight of his people, adding that such a kind gesture is rare and unprecedented. Mr. Enyievi also used the opportunity to thank the Permanent Secretary, CRSMOH for standing by the Ebom community in time of dire need, stressing that the health sector is indeed a very unique and big family, hence the community is very appreciative of Dr. Janet Ekpenyong, Director General of the Cross River State Primary HealthCare Development Agency for her prompt support and even the promise she has made for a better healthcare package for his people. The SSA further call on the federal and state government, including their relevant agencies, Non Governmental Organizations specifically those with environmental-related interventions as well as spirited individuals to come to their rescue, stating that the cause of the flood was because the popular cross river over-flows it banks, hence interventions such as constructing a river embankment and other major drinages in the community will help prevent future recurrance.

Responding on behalf of the flood victims and the entire Ebom community, the Town Council Chairman, Chief George Nkanu Egwu thanked the APC National Women Leader, Dr. Betta Edu, the CRSMOH and the CRSPHCDA for their kindness towards the Ebom people in a time like this. He also thanked the facilitator of the visit who happen to be one of their own, Peter Enyievi for his thoughts and passion for the community and pray that Almighty God will bless and replenish them for the visit and for all the items donated to the Ebom people.
