The Directorate of Information has announced a fresh empowerment and educational support opportunity for students and youths in Cross River State, encouraging interested applicants to take advantage of the programme before the registration deadline.
According to the Directorate, the initiative is part of its commitment to strengthening collaboration between the University community and the Cross River State Government while creating opportunities that promote education, skills development, leadership, and career growth for Malabites and Malabresses.
The programme is being facilitated through the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth Development under the Ministry of Youth Development and Skill Acquisition, Cross River State.
As part of the initiative, the state government plans to sponsor 4,500 youths in various vocational and technical skill acquisition programmes. Interested students and other eligible young residents are required to visit the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth Development with their passport photograph, National Identification Number (NIN), and Bank Verification Number (BVN) to complete their registration.
The empowerment programme is fully sponsored and is aimed at equipping beneficiaries with practical skills that can improve self-reliance and employment opportunities.
The initiative also includes a Pre-Degree Scholarship Scheme for candidates who participated in the recent Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) but did not meet the required admission cut-off mark.
Eligible applicants will have the opportunity to undergo a one-year pre-degree programme in participating institutions, including the University of Calabar (UNICAL) and the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), after which they can continue their academic pursuit.
Applicants seeking the scholarship are expected to obtain and complete the physical application forms at the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth Development.
