Cross River State Government Take Action Over Ugep and Idomi War Crisis

In furtherance of steps taken by the Government of Cross River State to forestall a total breakdown of law and order in UGEP and IDOMI Communities in Yakurr Local Government Area, His Excellency, the Governor of Cross River State Senator Prince (Dr.) Bassey Edet Otu, PNIPR, hereby imposes a Dusk to Dawn curfew ( 6.00pm to 6.00am) daily with effect from Tuesday, 5th May, 2026 in and around the two communities of Ugep and Idomi for the next seven days.

This is a follow up to the implementation of the resolutions of the Peace Meeting held on Monday, 4th May, 2026, presided over by His Excellency, the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dr. Peter Odey and attended by the Surveyor General of the State as well as the State Boundary Commission and representatives of the two warring communities.

Accordingly, His Excellency has directed the Nigeria Police and other Security Agencies to ensure strict compliance with the Curfew. They are to also ensure that Vehicular movement on the Ugep-Ikom Highway remains seamless and unhindered.

The Executive Chairman, the Paramount Ruler of Yakurr Local Government Area as well as Clan Heads and key Stakeholders from the two Communities are hereby directed to cooperate with Security Agencies and sensitize the citizenry on the need to maintain peace and order in and around the communities.

The government wishes to reaffirm its commitment to ensuring a fair, transparent and peaceful resolution of the boundary dispute in the overall interest of the State development.
