Former heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury has made a dramatic U-turn in his plans for a highly anticipated clash with Anthony Joshua, calling out Ukrainian rival Oleksandr Usyk for a third fight.
Fury, 38, claimed on social media that his proposed all-British showdown with Joshua had fallen through following prolonged disagreements over the fight arrangements.
The former WBC heavyweight champion said he was now looking for a new opponent for November and challenged Usyk to face him for the third time.
“Let’s run it back in November,” Fury said in an Instagram video, putting the decision in Usyk’s hands and asking whether the Ukrainian was willing to fight him before the end of 2026.
Fury and Usyk have already met twice, with the Ukrainian winning both encounters on points in 2024. Their first meeting in May saw Usyk become the undisputed heavyweight champion, while he retained his status with another victory over Fury in their December rematch.
Fury’s latest comments come just days after he appeared to confirm that his long-awaited fight with Joshua would take place at Madison Square Garden in New York. However, negotiations have since hit fresh complications, with disagreement over the location and other contractual issues delaying the blockbuster bout.
The Fury-Joshua fight had been targeted for November, with both fighters understood to have signed contracts. Joshua’s camp has preferred a UK venue, particularly Wembley Stadium, while organisers have pushed for the event to take place in the United States.
Fury has now turned his attention back to Usyk, although a trilogy fight is far from guaranteed. Usyk has previously indicated that he has limited fights remaining in his career, while reports suggest his team has other plans for his next bout.
