A retired general of the military has called on the government to look into the existence of police forces in the country as the years go by.
In an interview on Friday at channel television during a program call inside source by Akande, retired general,General Ishola Williams, suggested that the Nigerian police force should be removed entirely and replaced with Crime Intelligence and Crime Agencies (CICA).
Williams thrown his weight behind the ongoing debate on the creation of state police as a panacea to kidnapping, banditry and the hydra-headed security challenges ubiquitous in Nigeria.
He further stated the reasons, saying the government knows the police force is outdated. “If you have been doing something for 10 years and it’s not working, there should be a change of tactics. If you don’t change the tactics, solving the problem won’t be easy.
General Ishola said the police force should be scrapped out because it’s outdated; their structure is outdated, but the police will never agree, not only the police but the military.”
Scrap the Nigerian police force and create CICA, which will serve as the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) and also create another paramilitary police force.
The essence of the Nigerian police force was created as paramilitary units, but it has lost its impact.
With good paramilitary police and border agencies, you don’t need the military; the military can now concentrate on the North East.
The retired general said many security agencies created by the government were not out of functionality and efficiency but out of job creation, and until this has been corrected, the desired solution will remain a mirage.
