Lost Your JAMB SIM or Email? Here’s What Candidates Can Now Do

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has eased its restriction on the swapping of registered phone numbers and changing of registered email addresses for candidates who have genuinely lost access to them.

The new arrangement takes effect from September 21, 2026, allowing affected candidates to update their details through a controlled process at designated JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.

According to reports on the policy review, the service is intended for candidates who can no longer access the phone number or email address linked to their JAMB profile.

However, JAMB has placed strict conditions on the process to protect candidates’ records and prevent fraud or impersonation. Candidates seeking the change are required to undergo biometric verification and provide a court affidavit as part of the procedure. The update can also be carried out only once.

The Board had previously restricted changes to registered phone numbers and email addresses because of concerns that such alterations could expose candidates’ profiles to unauthorised access.

JAMB said improvements in identity authentication and biometric verification have made it possible to review the restriction while maintaining the security of candidates’ records.

The development could provide relief for candidates whose lost SIM cards or inaccessible email accounts have affected their ability to receive important JAMB communications or complete admission-related processes.

JAMB’s official guidelines emphasise that candidates should keep their registered phone numbers and email addresses accessible because they are used for profile-related transactions and communication with the Board.

Candidates are advised to use only JAMB-approved CBT centres and follow the Board’s official procedure rather than relying on unauthorised agents.
