Mary Habila father take another decisions over death of daughter at Dave Umahi’s house

Written by Mary Bassey

The family of the late Mary Habila has formally withdrawn its interest in the investigation into her death, rejecting an autopsy and requesting the immediate release of her body for burial.

In an affidavit sworn before the High Court Registry in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, on July 13, 2026, Mary’s father, Tanko Habila Wisdom, stated that the decision reflected the unanimous wish of the family.

According to the affidavit, Mary Habila died on June 27, 2026, in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The document stated that before her death, she was a staff member of the David Umahi Federal University of Medical Sciences and had been seconded to the Federal Ministry of Works, where she served as a personal nurse to the Minister of Works for about three years.

Mr. Habila acknowledged that the Minister of Works had requested an autopsy to determine the cause of his daughter’s death. However, he said the family would not consent to any post-mortem examination, insisting that her body and organs should remain intact.

He also requested that the police discontinue further investigation into the matter and release Mary’s body to the family for burial.

The affidavit further stated that neither he nor his family would honour any future invitations from the police or the court concerning the case, maintaining that they do not suspect any foul play in her death.

Mr. Habila added that the decision was made voluntarily and that he was neither induced, coerced nor influenced by anyone to make the declaration.

The affidavit was sworn before a Commissioner for Oaths at the High Court Registry, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
