The Tuesday morning Palisides Fire in Pacific Palisides, one of Los Angeles neighborhoods east of Malibu, has been identified as the start of the disaster.
According to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, known as the Cal Fire, the fire had risen to 19978 acres by Thursday evening.
Los Angeles Fire Chief Anthony Marone said the Eaton Fire erupted Tuesday night near a valley in the extensive national forest lands north of downtown Los Angeles, reaching more than 13,000 acres by Thursday.
He said the fire could damage or destroy
5,000 structures kund.
Los Angeles Sheriff Robert Luna said robberies and thefts have increased in some evacuated neighborhoods, leading to 20 arrests.
• Police quickly arrested a man on suspicion of setting arson in connection with the fire.
The cause of the fires is not yet known and is under investigation.
