Super Eagles winger Moses Simon has revealed that his father was prepared to send him into the military if his football career failed to take off.
Speaking in an interview with Urban Well Sports published on Thursday, the Nigerian international reflected on his journey to becoming one of the country’s most consistent footballers, saying his path to success was shaped by his father’s strict discipline and high expectations.
Simon, who currently plays for French club Paris FC, explained that his father, a retired soldier, believed strongly in hard work, discipline and responsibility. According to him, staying at home without a clear purpose was never an option.
The 29-year-old said his father made it clear that if football did not provide him with a future, he would have to follow in his footsteps by joining the military.
Despite the pressure, Simon remained committed to football, working tirelessly to turn his dream into reality. His determination eventually earned him opportunities in Europe before becoming a key player for the Super Eagles.
Today, Simon is regarded as one of Nigeria’s most experienced internationals, having represented the country at multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and the FIFA World Cup.
The winger said his father’s tough approach ultimately helped shape his character and motivated him to remain focused on achieving success in football.
