The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has announced that reforms in the country’s oil and gas sector have increased crude oil production by 600,000 barrels per day, raising output from approximately 1.2 million to 1.8 million barrels daily.
NNPC Group Chief Executive Officer, Bashir Bayo Ojulari, disclosed this on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, during an energy discussion titled *“Nigeria’s Reform Agenda: Competing for Energy Capital”* at the 2026 Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) in the United Arab Emirates.
Ojulari attributed the improvement to the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021, improved investment conditions, better investment decisions and stronger collaboration between NNPC and its industry partners.
He explained that the progress has strengthened Nigeria’s position in attracting international investors and expanding activities in the oil and gas industry.
The NNPC boss also revealed that the company is working towards increasing national crude oil production to two million barrels per day by 2027.
According to him, achieving the target will require maintaining existing infrastructure, protecting current production levels, increasing output from existing oil assets and completing new projects.
Ojulari described the current production level as an important milestone, stressing that sustained efforts would be necessary to achieve further growth.
He also highlighted developments in Nigeria’s gas sector, including the expansion of compressed natural gas (CNG) facilities and major gas pipeline projects aimed at improving domestic energy supply.
The announcement comes amid the Federal Government’s efforts to attract fresh investment, strengthen energy security and position Nigeria as a major player in the global oil and gas market.
However, sustaining the production increase will remain important as the country continues to address challenges affecting its oil industry.
