The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has assured Nigerians that passport application and issuance services remain fully operational across the country despite the recent centralisation of passport printing.
The clarification follows concerns that relocating passport printing operations to the Service’s Central Personalisation Centre at its headquarters in Abuja could disrupt passport processing nationwide.
In a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, the NIS explained that the adjustment is strictly an internal operational measure aimed at improving efficiency and enhancing the security of passport production.
According to the Service, only the passport printing stage has been centralised, while all passport offices across Nigeria, as well as Nigerian embassies and consulates abroad, will continue to receive applications, capture applicants’ biometrics, process requests, and deliver passports as usual.
The agency stressed that applicants do not need to travel to Abuja to complete any part of the passport application process, as all enrolment and processing activities will remain at their selected passport offices.
The NIS further reassured Nigerians that the new arrangement would not lead to delays or interruptions in passport issuance, urging members of the public to ignore misleading reports suggesting otherwise.
It added that the centralised printing system is part of ongoing reforms designed to strengthen service delivery, improve quality control, and safeguard the integrity of the Nigerian passport.
The Service reaffirmed its commitment to providing efficient, transparent, and seamless passport services to Nigerians both at home and abroad.
