Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has spoken about his decision to continue formal education at the age of 80, saying his desire to know more about God motivated him to pursue further studies.
Obasanjo made the disclosure while reflecting on his personal journey and his belief that learning should not be limited by age or social status.
“There is no age or position limit to education. At the age of 80, I still pursued formal education. I wanted to learn more about God, and worship Him better,” he said.
The former president, who served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from 1976 to 1979 and later as a democratically elected president from 1999 to 2007, has remained active in public, intellectual and religious activities since leaving office.
His decision to return to formal learning later in life highlights his belief in continuous education and personal development.
Obasanjo’s experience also draws attention to the importance of lifelong learning, showing that the pursuit of knowledge can continue regardless of age, position or previous achievements.
