A youth group in Osun East Senatorial District has appealed to residents to forgive Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi over comments allegedly made during the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
The group made the appeal on Tuesday during a rally held in Ilesa, Osun State, in support of the lawmaker representing the senatorial district in the National Assembly.
The rally, which took participants through several streets in the town, was aimed at defending Fadahunsi’s record in office and seeking continued support for his representation of the district.
Addressing residents at the event, the youths urged them not to judge the senator solely on the basis of the alleged inciting remarks. Instead, they called on the people to consider the projects, empowerment initiatives and other contributions attributed to the lawmaker since his election to the Senate.
The group maintained that Fadahunsi’s efforts toward the development of Osun East should not be overlooked because of the controversy surrounding the alleged comments.
The controversy followed a viral video in which Fadahunsi was allegedly heard making remarks capable of inciting violence during the build-up to the August 15, 2026, governorship election. The senator denied the allegation, describing the video as doctored and insisting that he did not call for violence.
The development has sparked opposing reactions among residents and political groups in the senatorial district. While some constituents have called for his recall over the alleged comments and what they described as poor representation, other groups have defended his record and urged residents to support him.
The youth group at Tuesday’s rally appealed for calm and unity, urging residents to look beyond the controversy and recognise the senator’s contributions to the district.
The group’s position comes amid an ongoing debate over accountability, political conduct and effective representation in Osun East.
