The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two men following a raid on an alleged illicit drug hideout in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
The operation, carried out in the early hours of Tuesday, led to the recovery of suspected illicit drugs valued at about ₦6.2 million, alongside ₦598,400 in cash.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, saying operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, conducted the raid following intelligence gathered on the activities at the location.
According to Ikenga, the substances recovered included suspected Cannabis sativa, methamphetamine and other illicit drugs.
Two male suspects were arrested during the operation. They were identified as 47-year-old Nzube Onyedikachukwu, also known as “Onyeoma,” and 20-year-old Ugochukwu Azia.
The police spokesperson said the suspects were taken into custody as investigations continued into the alleged drug-related activities at the hideout.
Ikenga added that the command remains committed to tackling the distribution and use of illicit drugs and other criminal activities across the state.
The latest operation comes as security agencies intensify efforts to disrupt criminal networks and drug-related activities in communities across Anambra State.
The police said further developments from the investigation would be communicated as the case progresses.
