The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that it has commenced an internal administrative investigation into the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, AIG Moshood Jimoh, following corruption allegations made by social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).
The Force disclosed that AIG Jimoh has been invited for questioning as part of the administrative review, stressing that the internal investigation is separate from an ongoing criminal case already before a competent court.
The police also revealed that VeryDarkMan has been invited to provide evidence to support the allegations he made against the senior officer.
The clarification was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, in response to widespread public discussions and social media reactions surrounding the matter.
According to the statement, the Nigeria Police Force acknowledged the recent comments made by VeryDarkMan regarding AIG Jimoh and an ongoing criminal matter, noting that it was necessary to clarify the status of both the judicial proceedings and the internal administrative process.
The Force explained that while the criminal aspect of the matter remains before the court, it has a responsibility to independently review the conduct of its personnel whenever allegations are raised. It emphasized that the administrative review does not interfere with or prejudice the ongoing court proceedings.
The police further assured Nigerians that due process would be followed throughout the investigation and reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and professionalism in handling allegations involving its officers.
The Force urged members of the public to allow both the judicial and administrative processes to run their course, warning against speculation capable of undermining the integrity of the investigations.
