Retired and serving staff of the University of Ibadan have donated about ₦6 million to rescued schoolchildren, teachers, and bereaved families affected by the coordinated attack on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The donation was presented on Wednesday at the Office of the Inspector-General of Education, Ogbomoso Zone, as part of efforts to support victims recovering from the tragic incident that occurred on Friday, May 15, 2026.
Leading the University of Ibadan delegation, the Chairman of the University’s Ad Hoc Committee on Support for Oriire Rescued Abductees, Prof. Ezekiel Ayoola, said the donation was a demonstration of compassion and solidarity from members of the institution.
According to Ayoola, both serving and retired staff voluntarily contributed to the fund to assist the rescued pupils, affected teachers, and families who lost loved ones during the attack.
He noted that the gesture was intended to provide relief to the victims while encouraging them to remain hopeful as they rebuild their lives after the traumatic experience.
The coordinated attack on the three schools in Oriire Local Government Area shocked residents and drew widespread condemnation across Oyo State, with many stakeholders calling for improved security around schools to prevent similar incidents.
The University of Ibadan’s intervention adds to ongoing efforts by individuals and organisations to support those affected by the tragedy and promote the welfare of victims in the aftermath of the attack.
