ADO-EKITI — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the June 20, 2026, Ekiti State governorship election, Dr. Wole Oluyede, has explained the reason behind his decision to withdraw his petition before the Election Petition Tribunal challenging the outcome of the poll.
Oluyede said his decision was driven by statesmanship, patriotism, and the need to place the overall interest of the state and the country above personal political ambition.
Speaking on the development, the PDP candidate maintained that while he had valid concerns about the conduct of the election, he chose to discontinue the legal challenge after careful consideration of the broader national interest.
In a move that has drawn political attention, Oluyede also declared his support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. He urged politicians and party leaders to prioritise grassroots mobilisation, describing it as a critical factor that would determine success in the next general elections.
Reflecting on the June 20 governorship poll, Oluyede said the election provided valuable lessons for political parties, candidates, and stakeholders ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, sustained engagement with the electorate and effective grassroots structures will be key to winning future elections, stressing that political success goes beyond campaign promises.
His withdrawal of the tribunal petition marks the end of his legal challenge to the outcome of the Ekiti governorship election and is expected to shape political discussions as parties begin preparations for the 2027 general elections.
