TRAGEDY AT ODUKPANI: UNICROSS Students Killed as FRSC Sets Record Straight

At least four persons, including three students of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) and a bus driver, have lost their lives in a fatal accident along the Calabar–Itu Highway.

The crash, which occurred on Friday night at about 9:25pm in Ikot Okon, Odukpani, involved a coaster bus conveying 22 UNICROSS students from Uyo and a container truck reportedly driven recklessly.

Confirming the incident, the FRSC Sector Commander in Cross River State, Corps Commander Innocent Etuk, stated that the bus was on its rightful lane when the truck rammed into it, killing the driver and three students instantly. The deaths were officially confirmed on Saturday morning.

A total of 18 other passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving medical attention.

According to Etuk, the truck driver and his conductor fled the scene and are currently on the run, while security agencies have been alerted to ensure their arrest.

The FRSC has once again urged motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent avoidable loss of lives.
