UK Train Passenger Jailed After Disturbing Act in Front of Woman

Written by Mary Bassey

A 36-year-old registered sex offender, Babatunde Odutola, has been jailed in the United Kingdom after exposing himself and masturbating in front of a woman on a train travelling towards Manchester.

Odutola, who has no fixed address, was sentenced to 44 weeks in prison at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Monday, September 14, after pleading guilty to one count of outraging public decency and breaching a suspended sentence order.

According to the British Transport Police (BTP), the incident occurred at about 7pm on Friday, September 11, while Odutola was travelling through Cheshire towards Manchester Piccadilly railway station.

The court heard that Odutola approached a woman who was travelling alone and looked her up and down in an intimidating manner. He reportedly became aggressive after she refused to engage with him.

He then exposed himself while seated in a wheelchair and began masturbating while looking at the woman and telling her to “come over”.

The woman was left distressed and was escorted out of the carriage by another passenger.

BTP said CCTV footage showed Odutola continued the behaviour as other passengers walked through the carriage. Officers arrested him after the train arrived at Manchester Piccadilly.

Police said the case was investigated and prosecuted within 72 hours of the incident, with CCTV footage and witness accounts forming part of the evidence against him.

Detective Constable Leonidas Christoforou of BTP said the incident would have been terrifying for the woman, adding that Odutola was already a registered sex offender.

Police also urged anyone who experiences or witnesses a sexual offence on the railway to report it by texting BTP on 61016.
