Utomobong 2025 an event that is holding ones this year and is known to evolved from 5 years now
Utomobong began at the Palace of His Eminence, the Obong of Calabar. But it didn’t take long before the crowd outgrew the palace! So, the celebration moved to the Obong’s country home in Adiabo, where the crowds became even larger year after year.
The arena was expanded again and again, but it simply couldn’t hold the sea of people coming home to celebrate Utomobong. So this year, the Palace has made the decision to take it to the next level – the UJ ESUENE Stadium, with over 18,000 seats and space for thousands more on the field!
UTOMOBONG is the day when every Efik clan and family unites to pay homage before His Eminence, the OBONG of CALABAR, the only first class monarch in this region, and a living link to the proud royal heritage of West Africa.
His Eminence, EDIDEM EKPO OKON ABASI OTU , is the longest reigning EFIK mkng in the last 100 years. Every son of the Kingdom, lover of culture, visitor in Calabar oght to witness the spectacle of EFIK beauty on that day.
If you are Efik, don’t just come to watch, participate. You must find your CLAN, your HOUSE and process with them. We must fill the stadium up.
Invite your friends, invite your neighbours. NO OTHER TRADITIONAL EVENT whatsoever – traditional marriage, burials etc should be allowed to hold on that day. It does not happen in BENIN, Yoruba land or any culture. All roads MUST lead to the UJ ESUENE Stadium.
You must come traditionally dressed — in your Onyonyo, White Chieftaincy attire, Efik waistcoat, Okponkpon, and Usobo.
This year, will boast amazing new attractions: things never seen before at Utomobong.
Everyone in Calabar should be there.
