The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 53-year-old man, Gambo Hassan, popularly known as “Anahaka,” over alleged kidnapping, rape, armed robbery and unlawful possession of offensive weapons in Bauchi metropolis.
Hassan was reportedly operating as a fake commercial motorcycle rider while allegedly targeting unsuspecting victims.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed the arrest in a statement made available online on Sunday.
According to the police spokesperson, the suspect was apprehended through intelligence-led policing and covert operations carried out by operatives of the command.
The police alleged that Hassan was linked to the rape of 35 women, in addition to other serious offences, including kidnapping and armed robbery.
The arrest forms part of the command’s efforts to identify and apprehend individuals suspected of engaging in criminal activities within Bauchi metropolis.
The suspect is expected to assist investigators in establishing the circumstances surrounding the allegations and determining whether he is connected to other reported criminal incidents.
The police have not disclosed further details about the identities of the alleged victims, the specific locations of the incidents or whether additional suspects have been arrested in connection with the case.
The command is expected to provide further updates as investigations continue.
The allegations against Gambo Hassan have not been established in court. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty according to law.
