Akpabuyo, the home Local Government Area of PDP opposition candidate Sir Arthur Jarvis, deserves more than political promises. The people deserve visible development, completed projects, and verifiable evidence of good governance.
It is rather disappointing that, despite the much-publicised promises by the Governor Bassey Otu-led administration, there appears to be little visible evidence of completed projects in Akpabuyo.
Last year, tractors were reportedly brought to the area with promises to commence the construction of the Ikot Ekpo Eyo Esuk MBA Village Road. Yet, residents continue to raise concerns about the project’s apparent abandonment.
Similarly, equipment reportedly arrived for the construction of the 23-kilometre Ikot Edemesa–Abakot–Ikot Ekpo Esuk Eyo Abasi OBO Road. However, concerns are growing over the project’s progress, with fears that it could also be abandoned. If these concerns remain unaddressed, residents will continue to face the consequences of poor road conditions, including serious road safety risks.
Governor Bassey Otu and the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Pius Ankpo, owe the people of Akpabuyo clear answers. What is the current status of these road projects? What work has been completed, what funds have been committed, and when can residents realistically expect delivery?
Governance is not about political propaganda or promises; it is about measurable results. The people of Akpabuyo deserve roads that are completed, infrastructure that serves their needs, and empowerment programmes that genuinely improve their livelihoods.
As the 2027 political season approaches, the people must ask a fundamental question: Should political loyalty outweigh verifiable evidence of development and completed projects?
Akpabuyo deserves more than assurances. It deserves transparency, accountability, and tangible results.
Governor Bassey Otu, the people of Akpabuyo are asking: Where is the evidence of development? Let the projects speak for themselves.
