UNGA 79: C’River Participates in GA Debate as VP Shettima Advocates For Youth Inclusion and others

 

The Cross River State Governor has joined Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima to present the country’s position on youth inclusion and enhanced global cooperation at the ongoing 79th edition of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The General debate which was also attended by other top Nigerian political leaders includes the representative of the Governor of Cross River State and Special Adviserw on Gender Mainstreaming, Dr Inyang Asibong.

The VP who led the federal government delegation to represent President Tinubu at the global event (United Nations General Assembly) presented national and regional challenges, including governance, ease of doing business with other nations and Nigeria’s enduring democracy, emphasizing the need for improved livelihoods, concerns over creeping trade barriers, insecurity, and the devastating impact of seasonal floods that have resulted to loss of lives and property.

The significant presentation saw the Vice President reaffirming Nigeria’s dedication to United Nations Peacekeeping operations. He emphasized the urgent need for Africa to foster stronger alliances, including critical reforms to the UN Security Council to secure Nigeria’s permanent membership, thereby amplifying the continent’s voice on the global stage.

The Vice President spoke on the role of empowering youth and women in achieving national development, peace and security as core pillars of the United Nations’ mission.

He emphasized on the need to promote the UN core values which Nigeria has outlined in the National Action Plans on Women, Peace and Security.

The representative of Nigeria President explained that youth and women are another important factor as key drivers of progress and stability.

“By advancing the interests of these groups, nations can unlock their full potential and create a more sustainable development and human rights,” he added.

Most of the issues raised by the Vice president are being mainstreamed by Governor Otu at the sub-national level of Cross River; a state that shares international boundaries with Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea and Sào tomè and Principè on lands and Maritime corridors.
