Balogun Makes History as First Female Pilot in Customs

Olanike Nafisat Balogun has achieved a groundbreaking milestone by becoming the first female pilot in the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).

This remarkable feat is a testament to her unwavering ambition and dedication to the service.

 

Early Career and Education.

Balogun’s journey began in 2002 when she was recruited as a Customs Assistant.

She later earned an Advanced Diploma in Air Ticketing and Cabin Services.

Then, a Master’s in Public Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, and her Pilot Certification from the Flying Academy.

 

Inspiring Women and Young Nigerians.

As a Deputy Superintendent of Customs, Balogun is not only a trailblazer but also an inspiration to women within and beyond the service.

She is passionate about encouraging others, especially young Nigerians, to chase their dreams and break through barriers.

 

Overcoming Challenges and Staying Committed.

Balogun’s journey was not without its challenges.

She revealed that staying in the service when many of her colleagues opted for better-paying airline jobs was a tough decision.

However, she was determined to contribute to public service and achieve her dream of becoming a pilot.

The Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, commended Balogun’s dedication and described her achievement as a testament to the Service’s commitment to capacity building and innovation.
