He recalled that on the evening of the attack, he and his entourage which included a NANS bus and a Hilux vehicle were preparing to leave when he stopped to greet an old university friend, Barr. Umah Akpanke who was later said to be leading a certain unregistered group “JTF” in Obanliku.

While exchanging pleasantries, a man later identified as “Oyibo” said to be his PA reportedly alighted from a motorcycle, holding a bottle of beer, and began hitting the NYCN bus. When the driver attempted to ask why he was damaging the vehicle, Barr Umah allegedly punched him to his eye, claiming the territory belongs to the said “JTF”

As Comr. Olayi stepped in to inquire about the situation, Oyibo punched him heavily in the chest. Within moments, other individuals believed to be members of the said local group joined in, attacking Olayi and other council members including collection of phones and other valuable items
