The Federal Government has introduced a new technology-driven system to regulate airport car hire services across Nigeria, in a move aimed at improving passenger safety, strengthening security, and eliminating illegal transport operations within airport premises.
The initiative, known as the Airport Car Hire Rank Management System, is being implemented by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria as part of ongoing efforts to modernise airport ground transportation services and ensure that only registered and verified operators provide car hire services.
The new system is expected to digitise the management of airport car hire operations by introducing proper registration, identity verification, and monitoring of service providers. It is also designed to curb the activities of touts and unauthorised drivers who often operate around airport terminals, posing security risks to passengers.
According to FAAN, the initiative will improve transparency, enhance operational efficiency, and provide travellers with safer and more reliable transportation options upon arrival at airports.
The authority noted that the technology-driven platform will also strengthen collaboration with security agencies by enabling better tracking of operators and vehicles, while ensuring compliance with established safety and operational standards.
The introduction of the Airport Car Hire Rank Management System forms part of the Federal Government’s broader aviation sector reforms aimed at enhancing security, improving passenger experience, and aligning Nigeria’s airport operations with international best practices.
Authorities have assured stakeholders that the transition will be implemented in phases, with continuous engagement of licensed operators to ensure a smooth rollout across airports managed by FAAN.
