Davido Says Ronaldo’s World Cup Experience Changed His View on Fame

Written by Mary Bassey

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that his biggest fear is not knowing the right time to step away from music despite his successful career.

Speaking during a recent interview, the award-winning singer said he hopes to one day establish a therapy and support centre for people who were once famous and successful but later struggled with life after leaving the spotlight.

According to Davido, many celebrities, athletes, and public figures face emotional challenges when their careers slow down or public attention fades.

«“If there was one thing I could build, I would build a centre for people that have been popular and very successful before. A centre for them to have therapy,” he said.»

Davido said his perspective on fame changed after watching Portuguese football legend Cristiano Ronaldo receive harsh criticism following Portugal’s exit from the 2022 FIFA World Cup, despite his remarkable achievements in football.

«“Look at Ronaldo. He’s my very good friend. When he left the World Cup, people were abusing him so much after everything he has done,” he said.»

The singer noted that fame can be temporary and that public opinion can change quickly, regardless of a person’s accomplishments.

He added that his greatest concern is making the wrong decisions after working so hard to build his career.

«“That’s my greatest fear. I worked too hard for me to come and spoil it for something. So I always ask God, ‘God, just tell me the right time to pack it up.’ I think that’s the only thing I’m scared of.”»
