The Nigeria Police Force has arrested Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-proclaimed Director-General of the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), in Osun State, hours after a Federal High Court in Abuja issued a bench warrant for his arrest.
Adeyemi was apprehended by operatives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) following the court’s directive. He is expected to be transferred to Abuja for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Confirming the arrest in an exclusive interview with PUNCH Online on Tuesday, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, said Adeyemi was arrested at his hideout in Osun by the IRT from the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
According to Ojelabi, the suspect is likely to be moved to Abuja later on Tuesday to face the charges against him.
The arrest comes shortly after the Federal High Court issued a bench warrant against Adeyemi over allegations linked to his activities as the self-acclaimed head of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, an organisation whose legitimacy has been widely questioned.
Further details surrounding the charges and the ongoing investigation are expected to emerge as the police continue their inquiries.
