The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the University of Calabar has announced the restoration of lighting at Pavilions 2 and 3 on the institution’s main campus, bringing relief to students who had expressed concerns over poor visibility in the area.
The Executive President of the SUG, Sen. Ebong Vordina Francis, disclosed that the faulty light bulbs at both pavilions have been replaced following sustained advocacy and continuous engagement with the University Management and the Directorate of Works.
According to the SUG President, the intervention became necessary after students reported that inadequate lighting around the pavilions was affecting movement, security, and evening study activities.
Francis reiterated that students’ welfare remains a major priority of his administration, noting that the successful restoration reflects the Union’s commitment to creating a safer and more conducive learning environment on campus. He assured students that the SUG would continue working closely with the university authorities to address other pressing issues affecting the student community.
He also expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor, the Director of Works and his team, as well as the University Management, for responding promptly to the concerns raised by the Students’ Union. The SUG President further thanked students for their patience and encouraged them to report faulty facilities through the appropriate channels for swift attention.
The restored lighting at Pavilions 2 and 3 is expected to enhance safety, improve visibility, and provide a better environment for students, especially those who use the facilities during the evening.
