The Abia State Government has reiterated its commitment to expanding access to safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services through strategic investments, partnerships, and the rehabilitation of critical water infrastructure across the state.
The assurance was given by the Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Mr. Ikechukwu Monday, during a two-day Stakeholders’ Validation and Local Investment Plan Workshop held in Umuahia.
The workshop was organised by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation in collaboration with the Abia State Ministry of Power and Public Utilities and Teamwork Global Associates. It brought together government officials, development partners, and key stakeholders to validate plans aimed at strengthening water supply and sanitation services in Abia.
Speaking at the event, the commissioner said the state government remains focused on ensuring that residents have sustainable access to clean water and improved sanitation facilities. He noted that the government is prioritising the rehabilitation of existing water schemes, upgrading infrastructure, and promoting long-term investments that will enhance public health and improve living standards.
Monday also stressed the importance of collaboration between government agencies, development partners, and local communities, describing such partnerships as essential to achieving lasting improvements in the water and sanitation sector.
The workshop forms part of ongoing efforts to develop a comprehensive Local Investment Plan that will guide future interventions, mobilise resources, and accelerate progress toward universal access to safe water and sanitation in Abia State.
