Stakeholders have called for increased funding and wider implementation of evidence-based parenting programmes in Akwa Ibom State, stressing that stronger support for parents is essential to protecting children and building healthier families.
The appeal was made during a dissemination workshop themed, “From the Airwaves to Stronger Families: Evaluating Parenting 101 with Isang and Shaping the Future of Parenting Support in Akwa Ibom State.”
The event brought together policymakers, child development experts, civil society organisations, and other key stakeholders to review the impact of the Parenting 101 with Isang initiative and discuss practical strategies for expanding parenting support across the state.
According to a statement made Online on Saturday, the workshop was organised by Parenting for Lifelong Health in partnership with the Global Parenting Initiative under the Department of Social Policy and Intervention at the University of Oxford. The programme received funding from the John Fell Fund of the University of Oxford.
Participants highlighted the importance of investing in proven parenting interventions that promote positive child development, prevent violence against children, and strengthen family relationships. They urged government agencies, development partners, and private organisations to prioritise sustainable funding for parenting programmes to ensure more families benefit from the initiative.
The stakeholders also emphasised that supporting parents with practical skills and resources would contribute to safer homes, improved child well-being, and stronger communities across Akwa Ibom State.
