Federal Controller Of Works Commends Progress On Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway Project In Akwa Ibom

The Federal Controller of Works in Akwa Ibom State, Engr. Vincent Okoduwa, has expressed satisfaction with the steady progress recorded on Section 3A of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project following an inspection tour of the ongoing construction works in the state.
Leading officials of the Federal Ministry of Works on the inspection, Engr. Okoduwa visited key sections of the project to assess the quality and pace of execution. He noted that the contractor has successfully completed approximately nine kilometres of the dual carriageway using Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP), describing the achievement as a significant milestone.
He further disclosed that construction activities are currently focused on the installation of median crash barriers, the laying of five per cent cement-stabilized stone base, and reinforcement works on an additional five kilometres of the carriageway.
The inspection team also visited the dredging location at kilometre 34, a swampy section of the project requiring massive sand filling before road construction can continue.
Engr. Okoduwa described the level of mobilization at the site as impressive, noting that the dredger and its supporting equipment have already been installed and are being prepared for full operation.
According to him, the contractor is expected to commence sand-filling operations at the location next week, a development expected to accelerate the pace of work on the strategic highway.
Receiving the inspection team, the Project Manager of Hitech Construction Company Limited, Engr. Kamil, expressed appreciation to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his bold leadership and vision in initiating the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project.
He also commended the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, CON, for his unwavering commitment to ensuring the successful execution of the project through effective supervision and support.
Engr. Kamil described the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a landmark national infrastructure that will transform transportation, stimulate economic growth, enhance regional integration, and create new opportunities for investment and development along Nigeria’s coastal corridor.
He assured the Federal Ministry of Works that Hitech Construction Company Limited remains fully committed to delivering the project in accordance with approved specifications, maintaining the highest standards of quality, and completing the work within the stipulated timeframe.
The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is one of the Federal Government’s flagship infrastructure projects designed to connect Nigeria’s coastal states, improve interstate transportation, promote commerce and tourism, and unlock the vast economic potential of the nation’s coastal communities.
