Clement Agiangie Hails Osun Voters’ Verdict, Describes Adeleke’s Victory as a Win for Democracy

The South-South Zonal Secretary of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Clement Agiangie, has congratulated Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in the August 15, 2026 governorship election, describing the outcome as a reflection of the people’s will and a victory for democracy.

In a statement signed by Amawu, Cletus Albert Amawu, NDC State Publicity Secretary, Cross River State, Agiangie said the election demonstrated the importance of allowing citizens to freely choose their leaders through the ballot.

According to him, the Osun election reinforces the principle that political power ultimately belongs to the people and that electoral outcomes must be respected by all stakeholders.“We celebrate this victory as a triumph for democracy and the people’s will. The people of Osun State have spoken, and their voice must be respected. This is a reminder that leadership is not imposed but earned through trust and service,” he said.

Agiangie Urges Adeleke to Focus on Good Governance

Agiangie congratulated Adeleke on his renewed mandate and urged him to view the victory as a responsibility to deepen good governance, accountability and inclusive development across Osun State.

He identified infrastructure, job creation, education, healthcare and youth empowerment as key areas requiring sustained attention.

The NDC South-South Zonal Secretary also urged the governor to consolidate existing achievements while creating greater opportunities for youths, women and vulnerable groups.

He stressed that inclusive governance would be essential to sustaining public confidence and promoting long-term development in the state.

NDC Chieftain Commends INEC, Security Agencies and Observers

Agiangie commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for what he described as a relatively transparent electoral process.

He also acknowledged the roles played by security agencies, election observers, journalists and civil society organisations in promoting peaceful participation and democratic accountability.

He called on political actors to respect electoral outcomes, avoid inflammatory rhetoric and embrace issue-based political engagement as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections.“Osun has shown the power of the ballot. Leaders must always put the people first, because democracy only thrives when the will of the people is respected and protected,” he added.

Call for Peaceful Political Engagement

Agiangie further appealed to opposition parties in Osun State to embrace dialogue and constructive engagement with the administration, stressing that development is better achieved in an atmosphere of peace and cooperation.

He reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to promoting democratic values across Nigeria and ensuring that elections reflect the genuine aspirations of the people.
