Written by calabarGist

The Magistrate Court 1 sitting on Moore Road, Calabar, has further remanded businessman Denis Odama over an alleged case involving the social media bullying of the Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu.

The court, presided over by Magistrate Mercy Ene, took the decision on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, after considering a bail application filed by Odama’s counsel.

Magistrate Ene declined to grant bail at this stage, stating that the prosecution must first file the matter before the court can proceed with the bail hearing.

The court subsequently adjourned the case until Thursday, August 20, 2026, while Odama was further remanded at the Afokang Correctional Centre pending the filing and receipt of the suit from the prosecution.

Odama’s Arrest and Previous Court Appearance

Odama, a businessman involved in car dealings and an indigene of Bekwarra Local Government Area of Cross River State, was reportedly arrested by the Nigeria Police in Lagos, where he is currently pursuing a doctoral degree.

He was subsequently brought to Calabar and charged in connection with the case.

At the same Magistrate Court on August 13, 2026, the court ordered that Odama be remanded for seven days and adjourned the matter to August 19.

However, during Wednesday’s proceedings, it was disclosed that the prosecution had yet to file the necessary charges before the court, prompting the latest adjournment.

The case, State vs. Odama, is expected to come up again on Thursday, August 20, as the court awaits the prosecution’s filing.

Odama remains an accused person, and the allegations against him are yet to be determined by a competent court.
